About the Centre

Vision

To be a world-leading research centre on public health in humanitarian crises, working closely with international humanitarian agencies and research centres in affected countries to address critical health challenges.

Mission

To improve health and health equity in crises-affected countries working in partnership to achieve excellence in public health research, education, and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.


With over a hundred members across LSHTM and keen student volunteers, the Crisis Centre provides:

  • interdisciplinary research around many aspects of health in humanitarian crises
  • a pool of experts for rapid response during crises, including with the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team
  • pathways for LSHTM Master’s students to get involved in humanitarian crises research

Outreach, engagement, and training by the Crisis Centre includes:

  • supporting the development of teaching on health and crises through face-to-face, online modules and short courses
  • strengthening public engagement and communication of research findings through monthly lunchtime seminars open to the general public
